We are no longer selling meat by the package. The bureaucracy that is the Tennessee Department of Agriculture has ruled that a producer who sells package meat directly to the consumer must obtain a Tennessee Retail license to legally sell meat by the package. This license consist of not only a license fee of $50 per year, but also the cost of complying with all their regulations pertaining to storing and selling packaged meat. If we were to comply we would have to raise our prices to cover these extra expenses and that would defeat our whole purpose which is to provide our customers with the highest quality meat at the most affordable price we can.
We have been producing and selling meat for 25 years or so without as much as one complaint from any customer and can not see the need for complying to these unnecessary regulations. We feel this license would not be in the best interest of our customers or ourselves, so we will be selling only animals or a percent of an animal to our customers, which to date does not require a license or unnecessary regulations. We realize most folks will have a hard time affording larger quantities of meat at a single purchase and we apologize, but this is out of our control. We suggest splitting your order with family and/or friends, to make the purchase more affordable. On a positive note, purchasing by the animal is much more affordable per pound than buying individual packages, so in the long run you will be saving a good amount of money.
The way this works is you tell us how much of the beef or pork animal you want, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or whole. We take the animal to the butcher shop and inform them of this and they will keep your portion separate from the rest of the animal by putting your name on that portion. Another positive note to this is you get to order your cuts exactly how you want then and how many steaks or pounds of roast you want in each package.
